mystikal pleads guilty to sexual battery???-the discussion

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (AP) -- Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal pleaded guilty Thursday to charges that he forced his hairstylist to perform sex acts on him and two bodyguards.

Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, had been charged with aggravated rape, which carries a sentence of life in prison if convicted. He agreed to plead guilty to extortion and a sexual battery charge.

He was sentenced to five years probation for extortion and has a September 25 sentencing date for the second charge, sexual battery of the infirmed.

Prosecutor Sue Bernie said Tyler confronted his hairdresser in his Baton Rouge apartment last July and accused her of stealing checks from him. Tyler told the woman he would not tell police about the checks if she did something "degrading" for him, Bernie said.

Tyler told her to perform oral sex on him and Leland "Pokie" Ellis, 37, and Vercy "V" Carter, 35, Bernie said. The men videotaped the sex acts, which Bernie said included intercourse.

Tyler`s attorney, David Bourland, said his client did not agree with all the allegations, but agreed that sexual battery took place.

"I`m glad that it`s getting behind me," the rapper said after his guilty plea.

Extortion charges against Ellis and Carter were dropped as part of plea agreements. Ellis and Carter also pleaded guilty to sexual battery and will be sentenced September 25.

Mystikal`s record "Tarantula" was nominated for a best rap album Grammy in January.

ACTIVEMIND69 (Mon, Jun 30, 2003 @ 12:19 EST)is it that when these young rappers get status that they lose their minds. He could have had just about any woman he wanted that would do anything for him, but this a#$h*@* chose to force a woman to do something she didn`t want to. And to think these are the images that our young people look up to..........HOW SAD

Sexual Battery/Assult
I read a few of the posted messages and am completely digusted. What type of society are we representing ourselves as if we can condoan barbaric behavior because the aggressor is someone we all know and appreciate for being in the lime light? We should hold the `Red Carpeteers` to the highest of standards and if they fail 2 support us morally, we need 2 boycott their product because when we continue 2 support them, our cihldren are being told (non-verbally) that their behavior is appropriate when it is not! WE MUST TAKE BACK OUR COMMUNITIES, CREATIVITY AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!!

WE ALL KNOW ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, WHEN THEY LET THE REAL ARTISTS OUT AND NOT THESE HOMO THUGS THEN HIP HOP WILL EVOLVE POSITIVELY TO THE NEXT LEVEL.... HOWEVER IF THEY WANT TO CONTINUE WITH THESE NUM NUTTS THEN THE EVOLUTION WILL BE AN INVOLUTION. WHICH WILL ONLY PROMOTE REVOLUTION.
EITHER WAY...
SEE THEY LIKE IT THAT THESE SILLY NO HOME TRAININ *bleep* HALF TALENTED DIK HEADS LITERALLY ARE RAPPIN, SO THEY CAN PIMP THEM AND THEN, WELL"THEY`LL END UP IN JAIL ANYWAYS...type shyt. HOWEVER THERE ARE MANY OF US WHO ARE FED UP WITH THIS SHYT... AND WANT REAL MUSIC TO LIBERATE OUR PEOPLE...like fukk a 50cent WHO IS 10 YEARS TO LATE.
WE AS A PEOPLE NEED HELP.
THIS IS BUT ANOTHER SIGN OF HOW MUCH WE NEED.

I don't believe these charges. i find it hard being that Mystikal lost his blood sister to a similiar act of violence. I'm not too sure of these charges.
I do know that it will take more than HIP HOP to restore all the ills we have have as a community. Reality is the Revolution died along with the real freedom riders and fighters of the 60's.
Growth manifested itself in the middle class "Cosby Show society", along with intergration, affirmitive action and any other cause during that period. We lost the true warriors to capitolist society we live in. They were given jobs and advancements to pacify. And thus is why we have no leaders today.
So the majority look for leadership in entertainers. Seems logical right being that they are in the spotlight but is this correct? who knows. I just know that Revolution is over rated in this time(2003) because not many people born after 1970 really know what struggle is let alone REVOLUTION!.

unselfish*

for as long as i can remember i had been associated with a certain word and action. not really recognizing the effect that it had on myself and those are around me. i really didn't care or think of the consequences to this. randomly doing my own damn thang. and you know how easy it is to get caught up in your own bullshit. well it used to happen to me. everyone would tell me how i was with them and they also provided examples. i just brushed it off as something they were bitching about. yep, it was them and not me. you know it's easy to just put it on others than to look within and realize the truth. truth is i was selfish. yes that's right selfish.
Pronunciation: 'sel-fish
Function: adjective
Date: 1640
1 : concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2 : arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others
- self·ish·ly adverb
- self·ish·ness noun

over the past 2 years i have learned many lessons in life. blessings upon blessings of knowledge, truth leads to light(forsight). the sight to see my own actions toward those that i love. realizing that i am selfish. admitting it to myself first, i was able to ask for forgiveness from the creator and i knew that my family had already forgiven.
funny thing is i recognize this behavior in others that i come in contact with. people don't really realize how selfish they are. and they pass it off as someone else's fault or mishap. until you stop and really look into your self-the cycle will continue. you get back what you put out. karma.

oh yeah...i wanted to leave blessings

listen: shit is hard for everybody-some things we bring upon
ourselves to make our situations harder. but we learn from those lessons
and keep going. each time taking something with you. this is how we come to
know thyself. the wants from the things we don't want. some times along the
way we totally fuck up. but i say how will you learn if you don't mess something up.
lesson learned. not repeated over and over. but i'm sure that you will bring light to the truth
and manifest that destiny that's inside you. that destiny that's meant. not that
which is planned out by you but that which is planned out by the creator...remember that!
I'm sure by now most people have signed this petition.
For some reason or another I can't help but think about the culture
in Nigeria as it invovles certain penalties. Personally I don't agree with
the stoning of a woman due to adultery. But I do overstand that
these people have their own way of doing things. I just can't help but to wonder
am I enterferring with the practices of these people. True this woman is about to
be put to death but in Nigeria these people believe that this is the price she must pay.
With that said am I messing with a tradition for these people? What do I really know
about life in Nigeria? I'm an African-American.not a Nigerian. So who am I to
step in. Don't get me wrong I don't want to see anybody die at the hands of another hu-man.
but I have struggled with this one for a while now. Even though I've signed the petition
like 3 times. I'm not sure but I would like to verse with my creator on this one.
peace

AMNINA LAWAL SET TO BE STONED ON 3RD JUNE
The Nigerian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Amina
Lawal, condemned for the crime of adultery on August 19th 2002,
to be buried up to her neck and stoned to death. Her death was postponed
so that she could continue to nurse her baby. Execution is
now set for June 3rd. If you haven't been following this case, you might
like to know that Amina's baby is regarded as the 'evidence' of her
adultery.

Amina's case is being handled by the Spanish branch of Amnesty
International, which is attempting to put together enough signatures to
make the Nigerian government rescind the death sentence. A similar
campaign saved another Nigerian woman, Safiya, condemned in similar
circumstances.

By March 4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000 signatures. It will
only take you a few seconds to sign Amnesty's online petition.
